BYU Management Society Asia Pacific Area encourages all our chapters in the Asia Pacific region to consider conducting virtual company networking tours. We feel these tours are a great way to help BYU MS members understand more about companies and potential employers in their areas.

A BYU MS virtual company tour is as the name implies; it is is a company tour that is conducted virtually. The tours have 3 main aspects as 1) networking, 2) a virtual meeting with a company executive, and 3) a question and answer session.

These virtual tours are a great way to help BYU MS members network and understand more what companies are looking for with their employees.

4 Steps To Conduct A BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour

There are several steps that BYU Management Society Chapters can take to set up BYU Management Society Virtual Company NetworkingTours We have found that running these tours once a month or 12 times a year is a great program for all chapters to institute.

Here are 4 easy steps that BYU MS Chapters can take to conduct Virtual Company Networking Tours.

Step 1 – Identify Contacts

The first thing you need to do is use your BYUMS chapter contacts or others to identify people they know who work in major companies or work in specific geographical regions (i.e., Hong Kong, Mongolia, etc.).

You can often contact high-level US-based contacts that may be able to help arrange a company Virtual networking tour another country in Asia.

Step 2. – Discuss With Your Contacts

Contact these people and explain to them about the BYU MS Company Virtual Networking tours. Then also discuss the following:

  • Explain that the mission of BYUMS is a worldwide business and professional networking group that helps people focus on three areas:
    • personal development
    • professional development
    • moral and ethical leadership
      • Our Virtual Company Networking Visits are one of the ways BYU MS in the Asia Pacific region looks to provide professional development.
  • When asking for the help of your contact in setting up the BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tours, you can explain the following:
    • The main purposes of the visits are for our BYU MS members to learn more about the company and for the company to meet potential employees, customers, etc.
    • The BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tours help to spread goodwill about the company.

Step 3 – Set Up a Date and Time

Step up the date and time of the tour with your contact, then advertise the BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour. Chapters can decide if they only allow chapter members or if they would like to open the tours to anyone in the area.

Step 4 – The BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour Agenda

In holding many of these tours, we have discovered the best agenda for these events. We have found that they work best if they occur at noon from about 11:30 am to 1 pm.

Here is an agenda for the BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour that we have found works well:

  • 11:30 am    Management Society members only meet and network together online. Each person gives a brief introduction with the help of a facilitator. Some of the things they can introduce are:
    • Name
    • Employer (or if you are going to school, where are you going and what are you majoring in).
    • Your job function or what you are studying
    • Why you attending this BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour
      • The following day, we will email a list of everyone (and their contact information) to all event attendees. Those who do not want to have their information sent to everyone can also request their information remain private. By sending this list, it helps everyone to be able to get in contact with each other.
  •   12-noon – At 12-noon, the facilitator introduces the representatives of the company.  The following information will be presented to the virtual audience:
    • The main products/services of the company, why it is successful, and the direction it is going in.
    • The types of people the company hires, ie new college graduates, experienced people, or both.
    • The backgrounds/school majors/skills, etc., the company is interested in for prospective employees.
    • the hiring process, ie what potential applications need to do to apply to the company.
  • 12:45 pm – Question and answer time with the company representative.
  • 1 pm – Adjourn the BYU MS Virtual Company Networking Tour

The purposes of the BYU MS company virtual tour for people to network and for BYU MS members to discover and learn things about potential employers.

Ideally, a tour like this should help BYU MS members understand what kind of employees companies are looking for; it should also help the BYU MS members understand if they need to get more education or skills to be eligible for employment. The tours are not just recruiting tours as much as informational tours to help BYU MS members know and discover companies and what kind of employees they are looking to hire.

These BYU MS virtual company tours do not need to be conducted by the president or top leadership of a company. In fact, many times, it is the HR manager that will conduct these tours.

When speaking to the HR manager, it is important to let them understand the mission of the BYU management society and the quality and kind of members that we have; most companies are actively looking for qualified staff and honest employees and have morals.

It would be good to work together with the self-reliance program at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in your area. In many cases, the Self Reliance manager is happy to work with the BYU management society to conduct these Virtual Company tours.

BYU MS encourages the BYU MS chapters to include in their tours any BYU Provo, BYU Hawaii. BYU Idaho, Pathway, or other University students who may be studying overseas also attend these virtual company tours. It is a way to help students studying in another place to see and understand what is available in these companies.
