Educational Foundations at Lyceum of the Philippines and BYU-Hawaii
His career aspirations shaped his educational journey at the Lyceum of the Philippines and Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYU-H). “Transitioning from accounting classes in the Philippines to BYU-Hawaii’s Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Program broadened my perspective on the industry’s global significance,” Micabani explained. “Traveling to different countries enriched my understanding of its extensive impact.”
Project Leadership and Impact: The Christmas Island Project
Micabani’s most significant project involvement was with the Christmas Island Project, where he played a pivotal role in creating a tour guide manual for the local community. “When the Christmas Island Project began, I was intrigued by its challenge,” Micabani noted. “My experience as a training lead at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) prepared me well for formulating the tour guide manual, which we presented to the local government of Kiribati.”
Challenges and Community Engagement on Christmas Island
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the project, Micabani recalled a memorable incident on Christmas Island. “One significant challenge was getting stuck in a lagoon due to vehicle issues,” he shared. “The local community’s immediate and generous assistance in fixing our truck demonstrated their genuine hospitality.”
Entrepreneurial Vision and Future Plans
Looking ahead, Micabani plans to launch his tour operating service in the Philippines after graduation. “I aspire to establish ‘Lakbay,’ a project curating personalized tours led by locals. This endeavor aims to showcase the Philippines’ cultural richness and address employment challenges.”

Offering advice to aspiring professionals, Micabani emphasized passion and perseverance. “The hospitality and tourism industry offers boundless opportunities,” he advised. “Focus on your passion and continue learning—it’s about making meaningful connections through hospitality.”

Micabani’s multicultural experiences, including his mission in South Korea and studies at BYU-Hawaii, have shaped his approach to tourism. “Interacting with diverse cultures has reinforced the importance of hospitality in creating wholesome experiences,” he reflected. “Every interaction on Christmas Island highlighted the genuine kindness and care of its people.”
