A Varied Professional Trajectory
Dominic’s professional trajectory has been anything but conventional. Dominic has consistently worn many hats, from his early aspirations to teach photography at BYU-Hawaii to his current roles in teaching English and coordinating educational programs at Chia Hwa International School in Taiwan, each adding depth to his approach to education and community engagement.
Shaping Mindsets Through Diverse Experiences
Reflecting on his journey, Dominic emphasizes the importance of his diverse experiences in shaping his mindset. “These experiences are vital to shaping my mindset and making who I am today,” he shares. “Students who attend BYU-Hawaii will gain valuable experiences studying there with the diverse cultures on campus.”
Integrating Visual Storytelling into Education
Drawing on his background in photography, Dominic has seamlessly integrated visual storytelling into his teaching style despite not fulfilling his initial dream of teaching photography at BYU-Hawaii. “I had a plan to study [photography] and eventually in hopes of being able to teach it in BYU-Hawaii, but alas, that dream didn’t happen,” he remarks. “But that doesn’t mean I didn’t get many good insights, which I can use in my teachings now.”
Sharing Wisdom and Nurturing the Next Generation
As an educator, Dominic’s approach to teaching English in diverse educational settings is rooted in sharing wisdom and nurturing the next generation. “My approach is to share the wisdom that I have gotten and pass it on to the next generations so they can maybe one day achieve greatness,” he explains.
Fostering Connections Beyond the Classroom
His passion for fostering connections extends beyond the classroom, which is evident in his engagement with diverse communities through platforms like his YouTube channel, Uncle Dominic Story Time. Dominic believes in connecting content and students’ diverse backgrounds to enhance engagement and promote empathy and respect.
Leaving a Legacy Through Storytelling
“One of the reasons I started my channel was to leave behind a legacy for my children,” Dominic reveals. “But I thought, why limit it to just my children? Other people would also benefit from this.” Through storytelling, Dominic aims to impart moral lessons and spread positivity in a negativity-filled world.
Envisioning Taiwan’s Bilingual Future
Looking ahead, Dominic envisions a future where language education in Taiwan plays a pivotal role in the country’s aspiration to become bilingual by 2030. He hopes to contribute to Taiwan’s language education landscape one step at a time through his programs and initiatives.
A Dedication to Shaping Minds and Bridging Cultures
As Dominic continues to balance his various roles and interests, including his family life and his commitment to community engagement, one thing remains clear: his unwavering dedication to shaping minds, bridging cultures, and positively impacting those around him.
