Faith, Fashion, and a Mother’s Vision: How One Mompreneur Built an 8-Year Legacy with Valianne’s Trends Apparel

Imus, Philippines — What began as a small side hustle selling women’s dresses to church friends and coworkers has now grown into an award-winning business.

Jilianne Roylence Francia, the founder of Valianne’s Trends Apparel, was recently recognized with 2nd Place in the Small Business Category at the Business Plan 2024 competition, held during the BYU Management Society Asia Annual Conference in Singapore.

From Dresses to Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship

Jilianne’s entrepreneurial journey began during her first pregnancy, which inspired a shift in her business focus. “I started Valianne’s Trends by selling women’s dresses to my church friends and workmates. My first pregnancy led me to redirect the business into something related to my current season as a pregnant and breastfeeding mom. Today, it has been existing for 8 years now, and I am so glad that this business helped me realize my passions and advocacy as a mom,” she shared.

Building Community as a Competitive Edge

Despite facing competition in the market, Jilianne found strength in her community. “Competition in the market is quite challenging, but it didn’t stop us from improving our branding and community management. We want to stand out by giving our community a competitive advantage. More than the clothes we sell, we also influence other moms to promote breastfeeding,” she explained.

Support from BYU Management Society Fuels Growth

The support from the BYU Management Society has been invaluable in helping Jilianne take her business to the next level. “Because of the financial support from the BYU Management Society, we took the leap of faith to renovate our storehouse. We mortgaged the property in 2023 and are so happy to have it renovated this year,” she said.

Faith and Hard Work as Cornerstones

Her faith has been a guiding force throughout her business journey. “Out of small things are great things brought to pass; this has been my favorite motto. We started with literally zero capital, but because of faith and hard work, the Lord blessed us with a business that will not just be our family’s main source of income, but also a way to help others, including local sewers and our employees.”

Words of Encouragement for Fellow Entrepreneurs

Jilianne’s message to fellow entrepreneurs is one of perseverance and faith: “Keep planting seeds. You’ll never know how or when it will grow. If you can’t see the fruits today, keep planting, showing up, and staying consistent. Miracles happen and blessings can compound only if we remain faithful until the end. If the Lord makes you prosperous, that is the time we need to serve Him more.”

Gratitude for Lifelong Support

Reflecting on her support from various organizations, Jilianne concluded, “I am forever indebted to the programs and organizations that helped us, such as the Academy for Creating Enterprise, Starting and Growing my Business, and BYU Management Society. You have helped us grow in many aspects of life.”

At the Brigham Young University Management Society, one of our focuses is on moral and ethical leadership. For moral and ethical leadership, we strive to help build servant leaders worldwide. We understand that organizations worldwide would be better if more servant leaders existed.

Ohana Paradise: Winner of the Great Idea Category in BYU MS Asia Business Plan Competition 2024, Singapore

Winning second place in the BYU MS Asia Business Plan Competition 2024 – Great Idea Category was more than just an accolade—it was a turning point. This provided me with a $750 prize and opened doors to new opportunities I hadn’t imagined before.

Originally, Ohana Paradise was envisioned as a family entertainment and wellness center. However, through this journey, the concept evolved into something even more meaningful. I partnered with an existing tutorial center to create Excel Learning & Daycare Center, a space designed for children’s play and structured early childhood education.
